Decode Before You Decide
Behavior is information, not the whole answer.

I help parents of neurodivergent kids understand what may be driving meltdowns, shutdowns, refusal, and explosive behavior, then use CALMER to choose a response that fits the moment.
Less guessing. More clarity. Greater Response Confidence.

Why Rewire exists
I spent years studying learning, behavior, special education, regulation, and child development. But hard moments at home taught me something different: knowing the theory does not automatically tell you what to do when your own child is overwhelmed, refusing, shutting down, or exploding.
I am a neurodivergent adult, an educator with more than 30 years in the field, and the dad of six neurodivergent children. I have lived these moments at the dinner table, in school meetings, through hard nights, and in the repair that comes after.
Rewire the Response grew from that gap between knowing a lot about behavior and still needing a practical way to respond in the moment.
Kids borrow our calm before they build their own.
What I Believe
It deserves interpretation, regulation, response matching, and long-term capacity building.
Behavior is information, not the whole answer.
Your state changes how every strategy lands.
The same behavior can require a different response depending on state, capacity, and need.
The goal is not simply to stop today’s behavior. It is to strengthen what the child and family can handle tomorrow.
The foundation
These four ideas shape how I help parents understand hard moments before deciding how to respond.
Look beneath the visible behavior before choosing an intervention.
Notice what your own nervous system is bringing into the moment.
Choose a response that fits the child’s current state, capacity, and need.
Use today’s response to strengthen regulation, communication, trust, flexibility, and future functioning.
The Core 4 help you understand the moment. CALMER helps you respond inside it.
The practical response process
CALMER is the practical response process I teach parents to use when a hard moment is already happening.
Settle your own nervous system before you respond.
Make safety and connection clear without increasing pressure.
Use fewer words, fewer demands, and one clear next step.
Match your response to the capacity in front of you.
Reduce noise, demands, people, or stimulation when appropriate.
Restore connection after the nervous system settles.
CALMER is not a script. It is a response process designed to help parents make better decisions under pressure.
Who I Help
Parents of neurodivergent kids who are dealing with recurring meltdowns, shutdowns, refusal, explosive reactions, or other big emotional behaviors and are tired of second-guessing every response.
You may already know a great deal about ADHD, autism, regulation, sensory needs, executive functioning, or trauma. The problem is often not lack of information. The problem is deciding what to do when the moment is actually happening.
The Outcome
Response Confidence means being able to enter a hard moment with a clearer process instead of immediate panic, pressure, or guessing.
“I have no idea what to do when this starts.”To
“I can understand what may be happening, use CALMER, and choose what to do next.”
